Beggin’

We don’t need to beg you to come to pop choir! Not after you’ve seen how much fun we have!

So how about you come and try us out this Monday at 7:30pm at Lyppard Grange Community Centre.

Here’s a little taste of what we’ll be doing…

Running Up That Hill

No!! Don’t be silly! I haven’t got any daft New Year’s Resolutions involving running!

My New Year’s Resolution is to sing more… is that even possible?

If your resolution is to do something new, something musical, something fun or perhaps something “Just for you”, then come along to Express Yourself Pop Choir. We meet at 7:30pm every Monday in term-time at Lyppard Grange Community Centre, Worcester, WR4 0SY and sing fun pop songs and show tunes.

Here’s one by Kate Bush that we’ll be doing this week! Hope to see you there!

Shake it off

Whether it’s the post Christmas blues (yup!) or mean media coverage (less likely) it’s time to Shake it off with Taylor Swift!

Come and join the Express Yourself Pop Choir at Lyppard Grange Community Centre at 7:30pm for lots of fun!!

Here’s a bit of Taylor to help you get in the mood for a bit of pop!

Happy New Year 2015!

It’ll be a happy new year on 5th January 2015 when Express Yourself Pop Choir starts their new term.

Brand new year, brand new term and brand new songs.

There’s no better time to join us. Everyone is welcome. 7:30pm on Mondays at Lyppard Grange Community Centre, Worcester WR4 0DZ. £5 per week.

Call Helen on 01905 747827 or email harussell@gmail.com if you want to come and sing.

New Term – New Songs

Express Yourself Pop Choir is taking a break now over the summer holidays but we’ll be back as usual on Monday nights at 7:30pm at Lyppard Grange Community Centre from Monday 1st September 2014

All new songs in September – so I’ll be busy over the summer break choosing the best of current and classic pop with some funky show tunes to add a bit of cheese!!

Have a great summer and see you in September!

All New Pop Choir

So last night we had a record number of singers at Pop Choir! Because we’ve joined forces with the Show Tunes Choir!

Instead of coming out on two different nights for Pop Song and Show Tunes, you can now come to one all singing, all dancing (well not so much of the dancing!) super choir!!

No need to choose! Come and do both!!

Mondays at 7:30pm at Lyppard Grange Community Centre, Warndon Villages, Worcester WR4 0DZ. Give Helen a call on 01905 747827 if you’re interested in joining us!

See you there!!

Winter Show Success

What a great show!

Last Saturday all three Express Yourself singing groups gathered in front of family and friends to put on a fabulous winter show. I know I always say our concerts are the best yet, but this time I really mean it. All three choirs were word perfect, pitch perfect and even dance move perfect!! I know!

Show Tunes Choir opened the show with “Comedy Tonight” from Something Happened on the Way to the Forum. An ideal song to open with! This was followed by a classic Burt Bacharach number from Promises, Promises called “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again”. We sang two songs from the amazing Tim Minchin musical Matilda; “Naughty” and “When I Grow Up”. Quite a challenging couple of songs for the timing but totally worth the effort. I think these were my favourites of the Show Tunes set. Without puppets we sang a heart rending version of Avenue Q’s “There’s A Fine Fine Line” and then we finished with the classic from Oliver “Who Will Buy”.

Next up were the beautiful harmonies of Glee Club. This is my chance to perform as Glee Club don’t need a conductor. We started with a beautiful rendition of The Beatles’ “Blackbird” followed by Alicia Keys anthemic “Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down”. We cranked up the emotions with a classic from En Vogue, “Don’t Let Go” and then rocked into the interval with “Wings” by Little Mix.

During the interval my hard working charity fundraisers, led by Jenny, sold tickets for our raffle. Traditionally our Winter Show star prize is a Christmas homemade hamper. I’m sure this helped us with our raffle ticket sales! We ended up raising £140, bringing our total for the year to £400!! Every penny raised over the year is being sent to the Worcester branch of Women’s Aid to help women and children who have been victims of domestic abuse. A very worthy cause so well done everyone for your hard work and kind donations.

The second half was dominated by the amazing Express Yourself Pop Choir. I knew in the dress rehearsal we were going to be in for a treat and I wasn’t disappointed. It felt like a party on stage! At Pop Choir we love mixing up current chart hits with classic pop and this term was no exception. We kicked off with “Lonely Boy” by The Black Keys followed quickly by Janelle Monae’s infectious chart hit “Dance Apocalyptic”. A change of pace with Smokey Robinson and The Miracles and their motown hit “You Really Got A Hold On Me” and Caro Emerald’s reggae version of Jason Mraz’s popular song “I’m Yours”. Jump back in time to the 1970s and Wings with “Jet”. When I say jump, I mean literally! Our boys at the back, always up for a bit of fun, demonstrated spectacularly timed jumps, with cheesy pointing. It really made the song, and made the audience chuckle too. Well done boys! We followed that with a bit of a tongue twister from the Midlands sensation Jake Bugg, “Lightning Bolt”. Another favourite of the choir. To finish the set we sang two songs by The Kinks, “You Really Got Me” and “All Day and All of the Night”

Now with it being Christmas we couldn’t let the Finale go by without singing our favourite Christmassy songs! All the choirs, and some of the audience, raised their voices to sing “I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus”, “Jingle Bell Rock”, “Frosty The Snowman” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside”. Then, because it’s got to be done, we finished with the world’s best Christmas song! Of course, it’s “Fairytale of New York”. What a classic and so much fun to sing. The audience went wild!

Thank you to all of my singers and all of your friends and family who make up our audience. It couldn’t be done without you. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and I’ll see you all again on Monday 6th January! By then I will have chosen our next batch of songs! It’s no mean feat when faced with an unlimited supply of amazing choices! If only we could live forever so that we can keep on singing!
